Goodbye, au revior, auf wiedersehen, a hui hou, viszlát, vertu blessaður, selamat jalan, sayonara, do widzenia, adios, hwyl, sala kahle… to 2009.
In some places, like Sydney and Melbourne, it is already 2010 – at the moment the fireworks are going off in Sydney, like they will do in London in about ten hours and twenty-four minutes.
Over in America, the last day of 2009 has probably just started.
Weird, right. Timezones.
Personally, I don’t want to say twenty-ten. I want to say two thousand and ten.
And that’s all I really have to say about New Year – just, you know, have a good time. Stay up late and watch the celebrations.
Have a happy new year, either way.
Personally I don’t like forgetting any times I had, good or bad, like some people do. The past is what makes us who we are. If you think that just because it’s a new year – a new decade – you can change yourself… well.
New Year is just – a new year, to me. Don’t change because it’s a new year; don’t forget the old years.
You are who you are. Don’t be who you want to be.
No doubt each year has taught you a lot, as you’ve got older. No doubt you’ll have earned new friends, lost old ones, had times when you’ve been so happy it’s like no one can touch you, had times when you’ve been so messed up you’ve had the urge to cry your eyes out.
I most certainly have had those times, and I sure as hell ain’t letting them go because it’s a new year – as most people seem to expect.
You can’t change every year. You can’t dismiss everything from the “old” year just because there’s a new one.
It’s like people buying iPods. Imagine you’ve got the first iPod Nano. Then as the new versions come out, yours is dismissed because it’s older. Then you’ll probably decide to have a new one – a “better” one.
What was wrong with your old iPod? It was “outdated”?
So, as you can see – New Year doesn’t really mean much to me. I don’t see it as a time to “change yourself for the better” – it just reminds me I’m getting older, haha. ![]()
You can change anytime you want – but change the way you look at things, and not who you are. People love you for who you are, right – so why change because of a new year?
But, when it comes, have a Happy New Year either way, suckers.
Can someone tell me if I sounded like some kind of New Year Scrooge in this blog?
